The United States Mint has partnered up with the National Endowment for the Arts, announcing an open call for artists to update many of the designs featured on various US coins and medals. This one-year contract-based employment opportunity is open to any U.S. citizen working in the arts with the option to extend it for up to five years.

The Mint expects to select up to twenty artists through the open call process to submit designs in response to various commissions. The Artistic Infusion Program has been an important part of the United States Mint for ten years. During this time, artists have created designs for popular collectible coins such as those released through the 50 State Quarters Program.

…This program will present the creativity and vision of contemporary American artists in both the coins that we use every day, as well as in the medals that will be used to mark occasions and accomplishments of great importance.

Applications from artists interested in this year’s program will be accepted up until January 10, 2014. (Image: Coin News)
