Woman Hires Hitman to Kill Husband, Tries to Pay in Postage Stamps

August 30, 2013 | Andy Cush

Elena Sava Adams, a 57-year-old Romanian-American woman living in Battery Park City, wanted to kill her husband. He wasn’t giving her enough money “to make ends meet,” apparently, and she wanted to collect on a little life insurance money, according to the NYPD.

So she went to Brooklyn (less surveillance cameras there, she thought) and hired a hitman. When it came time to pay, she offered him “valuable jewelry” and “rare German postage stamps” instead of the $60,000 fee. All seemed to be going well for Mrs. Adams.

Except the hitman turned out to be an undercover with the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office, and Adams was soon arrested. An acquaintance whom she’d told about the plot went to the cops, who contacted the DA to send out the faux contract killer.

DNAinfo contacted one of the couple’s neighbors. “They’re odd,” he said, asking to be referred to only as “Steve.” “He used to throw out the recyclables in his boxers. They used to live on Krispy Kreme and pizza.”

I can see the Coen Brothers movie already.
