Wu-Tang Decides To Auction That Single Copy Of Its New Album

January 8, 2015 | Rhett Jones

After months of speculation, the Wu-Tang Clan has decided what to do with its album, Once Upon A Time In Shaolin, of which only one copy will be produced. The group is auctioning it via online art space Paddle8.

Back in March, RZA floated the idea that the album would be sold to a single private buyer after it went on a listening session tour in which visitors would pay to hear it on headphones. In the meantime, the Wu dropped a different new album the traditional way and remained quiet about what would happen to the extremely limited-edition recording. Now we know that Paddle8 will be taking offers, vetting buyers and handling the private sale sometime at the end of this month.

There has been no further announcement about that proposed listening tour, but according to Dazed, the album still sits “in a custom-made silver box locked in a vault below some mountains in Marrakech,” just awaiting it’s new owner. The Wu should make whoever the buyer is go on a quest to recover it from its faraway vault.
