According to faculty at the University Of Texas, 100 brains stored in the its lab’s basement have gone missing. While one could be forgiven for thinking brains have been missing in Texas for quite sometime, these were very specific brains used for research purposes. The special collection of cerebral matter is believed to have even contained the gray matter of clock tower sniper Charles Whitman. So where did the brains go?
Psychology Professor Tim Schallert tells the Austin American-Statesman:
We think somebody may have taken the brains, but we don’t know at all for sure.
Schallert’s fellow psych professor, Lawrence Cormack, believes it could just be someone having a laugh:
It’s entirely possible word got around among undergraduates and people started swiping them for living rooms or Halloween pranks.
The other 100 brains that the university has in their collection are currently being scanned with MRI machines so that they’ll be more permanently preserved.
