Is Christine Quinn Buying Fake Twitter Followers?

May 31, 2013 | Andy Cush

Last night, Christine Quinn’s Twitter follower count jumped from about 3,500 to about 24,000 overnight. Most of those new followers are almost certainly fake. Fake followers, you ask, but how? Here’s how.

Should you care? Probably not. I’d be willing to bet it was some clueless staffer or volunteer who made the call, not Quinn herself. And most of the fake follower services don’t require a password to the account,  so it’s possible to “prank” someone else by buying followers for them. Still funny though. Here are some of Quinn’s fakest fake followers:

@25Warn, @nslicht, @AliceLum1 (featuring #relevant #nyc tweets like “Mets win!”), @EduGen11, and @Zschwartz14 (lone tweet: “I love Dropbox because I am able to mobile in fast paced world. http://db.tt/ImM3lof6“).

A bunch of fakers, all of them.
