Palcohol was NOT approved by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB). Instead, their labels were approved. However the TTB has since recanted, and Palcohol has surrendered those approvals.
Apparently, “a representative for the federal bureau said that the approval was made in error, though details were not provided about how the error occurred.”
Palcohol would have worked through supramolecular chemistry of cyclodextrins, the magical rings that grant unlikely substances the ability to be water soluble.
Palcohol said a misunderstanding with the TTB w/r/t how much powdered alcohol there will be in the product. Inventor Mark Phillips has said that he has always wanted the product to be used legally, and that consumers should ask the venue if they can bring Palcohol. Yeah, the bottles of whiskey in my purse sure say that we’ll be responsible enough to do that.
