Drone Footage Shows Just How Tasteless Trump’s Bronx Golf Course Really Is

April 30, 2015 | Liam Mathews

You knew Trump Ferry Point, Donald Trump’s overpriced golf course in a low-income and relatively isolated part of the southeast Bronx, was dumb. But did you realize it’s directly across the street from a housing project? That’s right!

As you can clearly see in the video, shot from ANIMAL 3, the fancy name for ANIMAL’s “drone,” Trump Ferry Point is across the street from the Throggs Neck Houses, a smelly, neglected NYCHA project. The golf course — where a round costs at least $141 — is sandwiched between the projects and Saint Raymond’s Cemetery, the resting place for notables including “Typhoid Mary” Mallon and Billie Holiday, who has by now surely rolled over in her grave.

The course cost $230 million to build, mostly funded with taxpayer money. It used to be a garbage dump.

Housing projects are everywhere in New York City, and the construction of businesses near public housing unaffordable to the people who live there is inevitable and not inherently wrong. But this is a particularly egregious and gross example, since the Bronx is largely poor and minority-inhabited and golf is the quintessential sport of unconcerned white aristocracy.
