Graffiti and Street Artists Finish Makeover of 191st Street Tunnel

As part of the New York City DOT’s ongoing beautification projects, urban artists have been working in partnership with the agency for the past week to make the pedestrian tunnel at the 191st Street subway station less dreary. Mission accomplished!

Aerosol masters such as COPE2 and Queen Andrea painted murals on opposite sides of the passageway that has historically been lackluster and mundane, while artists Nick Kuszyk and Cekis, along with Jessie Unterhalter and Katey Truhn, worked the middle sections in their signature, color-exploding styles; several worked through the night to make sure the tunnel would open Tuesday morning.
