Dumb Postal Workers Steal Weed Shipments, Get Arrested

December 4, 2014 | Rhett Jones

Eight enterprising members of the U.S. Postal Service in Long Island have been arrested for stealing shipments of weed from their branch. The pot-loving postal workers stand accused of allegedly intercepting more than 260 packages which they suspected had marijuana in them.

The New York Post  reports that the group would isolate bulky packages from California that seemed likely to be carrying bulk shipments of pot. After investigators were pointed to “three large shipping parcels discarded in the back yard of an abandoned North Babylon home,” they tracked the packages to a Bethpage facility. After speaking with supervisors, the investigators discovered that the traditionally alarmed door for the sorting area had been disabled for months:

Surveillance video showed the suspects had been hauling hundreds of packages out of the area in the dead of night since May. Tellingly, there was no uptick in complaints about lost mail.

The accused would then reportedly sell the weed on the street. After arresting the group, agents found 129 pounds of weed that with an estimated total value of $930,000 according to the authorities: That works out to about $7200 a pound, but in California, the best chronic in the world only sells for $1500 to $2000 a pound, once again highlighting the insane math police apply to drug busts.
