Former Panama Dictator Suing Call Of Duty For Damaging His Reputation

July 17, 2014 | Sophie Weiner

Manuel Noriega, the former CIA-backed military dictator of Panama is suing the publishers of Call Of Duty: Black Ops II for their representation of him in one of the game’s missions. CNN writes:

He argues in the lawsuit that his portrayal “as a kidnapper, murderer and enemy of the state” in the 2012 video game damaged his reputation. The company used his image and name in order to make money, the lawsuit says, therefore he’s entitled to a share of the profits.

The game made more than a billion dollars worldwide, while Noriega wasn’t consulted or compensated for his likeness. Activision Blizzard has not responded.

Noriega served two decades in prison for money laundering, drug trafficking and killing political opponents, among other crimes. He returned to prison in 2011 to serve the rest of his sentence.

Similarly, Lindsay Lohan recently sued Rockstar Games for what she claims was a representation of her in the most recent Grand Theft Auto game. (Still: YouTube)
