NYPD Will Make It Harder And Allegedly Less Tempting To Climb The Brooklyn Bridge

August 29, 2014 | Sophie Weiner

After the recent successful trespassing feats by people who climbed the Brooklyn Bridge and the tabloid panic that ensued, the NYPD is looking to improve the barriers to out-of-bounds areas of the structure. Cops will work with transportation officials to reinforce gates to the bridges cables, which urban explorers can use to scale to the top. The police will also be increasing foot patrols.

“Over the next couple of weeks you’ll see those barriers become more difficult to compromise,” said John Miller, the deputy commissioner for counterterrorism and intelligence. Miller believes that recent high profile bridge climbing stunts are tempting more people.

Recently, two German artists replaced the American flags with bleached white flags atop the bridge. Last week, a 24-year-old man was arrested when he was caught climbing the span. (Photo: Wikipedia
