Os Gemeos Unveil ‘Arms of an Angel’

Os Gemeos: "In the Arms of an Angel" Exhibit

The graffiti-painting Brazilian twins aka Os Gemeos opened up a new exhibit earlier this week at Milan’s Patricia Armocida gallery. Entitled “Nos Braços de um Anjo,” which translates to “In the Arms of an Angel,” the show features canvasses, sculptures and all sorts of cool work that is much better explained by the gallery of photos below than my words. Tape Artist Sam Bassett Gets Really High

Whereas most vandals are content sidebusting or going over noteworthy pieces, Sam Bassett tries to top them. The recently arrested street artist taped his signature symbol high above the Os Gêmeos mural painted this summer on the corner of Houston Street and Bowery. Lest you wonder how he reached such great heights, an accomplice filmed Bassett scooting back and forth along the wall, suspended by a rope. Read more »

The street art loving New York Times gives an exceptionally glowing review of the “fantastic” Os Gêmeos mural painted last month on the corner of Houston Street and Bowery. It’s described as “exquisitely fine-tuned and detailed, a dazzlement of effortless technique.” |NYT|

Os Gêmeos Finish New York City Mural

Yesterday saw the completion of Os Gêmeos’ mural on the corner of Houston Street and Bowery. Despite the “toy that scribbled in a tiny corner” of the painting, the mural was cleaned up and finished less than ten days after the earlier Keith Haring tribute was whitewashed. Once again, street art documentarian Luna Park was out early this morning to catch a flick of the completed piece. Also, see photos taken by DeathFromBelow of the artists twins relaxing in the road and closeups of the mural that includes subtle tributes to SACE and IZ THE WIZ after the jump. Read more »

Responding to the proliferation of interest around the vandalism of Os Gêmeos’ new work, Allen AKA tweets, “Quit gassing up the toy that scribbled in a tiny corner of the Os Gemeos mural. Shit is fixed and a non-issue.” In addition to touch up work, the twins also added a dedication to Dash Snow. |@akanyc|

Attention-Starved Vandal Tags Os Gêmeos Mural

The new Os Gêmeos mural isn’t even complete and someone has already tagged it. While it’s not clear how much damage was done or who did it, the directive is clear: “Blog about it,” exactly like we’re doing. The wall has a rich history of artists painting over another in recent years, although Keith Haring’s old associate, LA2, waited a couple months before embellishing his tribute. |ASF|

Chatting With Os Gêmeos About Their NYC Mural

Yesterday, street stalking newshound and friend of ANIMAL, Paolo Mastrangelo, scored some quick face time with one half of Os Gêmeos, the Brazilian street painting twins currently working on a very public mural downtown. Although they agreed to talk to him, that’s not always the case and there may be some truth to yesterday’s rumor about them regulating some videographers. Allen AKA of 12ozPROPHET was on scene helping the twins and confirmed that some overly abusive street art paparazzi were asked to move along. See video of the mural creating brothers in action below. Os Gêmeos Showing True Colors on Almost Finished NYC Mural

Os Gêmeos’ new fantasy mural on the corner of Houston Street and Bowery is nearing completion. Faces have been painted and a couple welcoming tags have cropped up alongside the piece. The Brazilian artists will finish painting over the next couple of days, but videographers beware: other fans have been told that Deitch Projects, the gallery sponsoring the wall, doesn’t want anyone videotaping the public art process. But it’s still not clear why or how they think preventing public filming is permissible or even possible. Full gallery of the colorful action below. Read more »
