UWS Residents Bitch Over Proposed Citi Bike Locations

June 11, 2015 | Prachi Gupta

Perhaps Upper West Side residents have cooled a bit to the idea of CitiBike a bit since last month. Locals are now up in arms over several proposed locations for CitiBike docks, calling them “horrible,” DNAinfo reports. The Post, with its usual flair for hyperbole, goes so far as to call the future bike zones “deadly.”

The outcry came on Tuesday, after the Department of Transportation presented 39 new stations that will appear between between West 59th Street to West 107th Street. Residents identified nine locations, in particular, as being potentially dangerous. From DNAinfo:

The locations that drew the most ire at a meeting to review them Tuesday included a site along the sidewalk to the entrance to Central Park between West 71st and 72nd Streets; a site next to the entrance to a preschool along Riverside Drive at West 67th Street; and a site that’s a major crosstown route for cars and buses along West 81st Street just east of Columbus Avenue.

Other locations of concern are 94th and 107th Streets at West End Avenue; West 67th Street at Central Park West; 78th Street and Columbus Avenue; and West 100th Street between Columbus and Amsterdam.

Community Board 7 will submit the list of recommendations to the DOT for review.
