Those who are looking forward to the launch of New York’s bike share program finally have a date to start counting down to. Though the Department of Transportation is only officially saying the program will begin sometime this month, a source within the Citi Bike organization told Crain’s it will launch Memorial Day weekend, about two and a half weeks from now.
Registration has been open since April 15, when the city logged thousands of memberships in the first 12 hours. Bike share’s initial rollout will include 6,000 bikes at some 330 stations. Conveniently, the city just released its annual map of bike lanes, so if you plan on riding this month, be sure to grab one.
