Good Guy Drone Will Bring You a Beer

Attend South Africa’s OppiKoppi music fest this summer will be greeted by perhaps history’s friendliest UAVs: a fleet of drones that will drop beers by parachute to anyone who orders them. In the video below, the flying booze bots are operated by remote control, but festival organizers eventually hope to make them fully automatic, with drones delivering cold ones to GPS coordinates sent by the buyer’s smartphone. No word on how the fest plans to deal with disputes over drone-delivered brew.

As PopSci points out, the FAA’s rules will change to allow commercial entities to operate UAVs, so in a few years we might see this kind of thing at Coachella and Bonnaroo. Who knows–by that time our country’s cannabis laws might relax even further as well. Weed drone, anyone?
