French singer Soko (Stéphanie Sokolinski) has just released a short film in collaboration with Arial Pink and marine activist Hannah Frase who performs in Vegas as a mermaid. Soko directed Monster Love, a tale of the shit that happens when you send a deceptively attractive photo of yourself to someone from the internet you’re trying to woo and how whatever that love stuff is peels away all the monstrous manifestations of your character or something like that, I don’t know.

She’s sweet. And she’s also crying, because I guess she’s having a thing with this Arial Pink dude and like FEELINGS AND STUFF.

We were friends, falling in love, but he was just out of a relationship and I—as always—was broken hearted. We hadn’t shed the heaviness of our past. I imagined that after relationships, we all turn into some sort of monster, and only if we stop being monstrous will we ever be able to be real lovers again.

Nothing changes in Silverlake. It’s still gorgeous weather all the time, and though it’s been seven years since my video art class where everyone was making distressed VHS clips, everyone is making distressed VHS clips…

Who else is thawing?

Soko has come a long way since the unbearable “I keel er. I keel er.” You cute homicidal thing! There’s like… substance now.
