Programming Language Named After Porn Star Linda Lovelace

July 2, 2013 | Julia Dawidowicz

While coding is the backbone of our digital life as we know it, only a small portion of the population actually has a grasp of the complex world of computer languages. Which is why the sneaky language-creators behind the scenes can get away with discrete mischief, like naming a coding language Linda… after porn star (turned anti-porn feminist activist) Linda Lovelace. GASP!

Linda is a “language typically used as a ‘language within a language’ to aid in parallel processing.” Language within a language, you say? […system calibrating dirties pun…calibrating…calibrating…ERROR…insert new language…]

As well as being a nod to the starlet behind such pornographic feats as Deep Throat and Deep Throat Part II, it’s also a subtle reference to Ada Lovelace, a mathematician and the world’s first computer programmer.

Naughty.
