Finally, we may be entering an era in which we never have to pull ourselves from our iPhones, not even for a minute. The New York Times is reporting that the Federal Aviation Administration is set to give up on perhaps its silliest rule: no phones during takeoff and landing. It makes perfect sense to drop it–the myth that cell phones, without sending or receiving any data, can cause enough electronic interference to screw up a plane was busted long ago. Still, it’s encouraging that the bureaucratic FAA is taking this step, which will likely go into effect next year.
Because we can’t be expected to put our phones down and be alone with our thoughts for a few minutes at the beginning and end of a flight! Are you kidding? You still won’t be able to text or make calls, though.
