Artist’s Notebook:
COPE2

January 14, 2013 | Marina Galperina

ANIMAL’s feature Artist’s Notebook asks artists to show us their original idea sketch next to a finished piece. This week, NYC graffiti-bombing legend COPE2 shows us what a quick sketch of his wall piece looks like.

I did this sketch pretty quick once I knew I was putting a wall together with several graffiti artists. If I’m just doing a straight up sketch for a blackbook, I’ll go all out and color it in, but if the sketch I’m doing is going up on a wall, I usually just knock it out with a pencil. pen or marker. I normally like using pencil. It’s more official.

I’ll bring the sketch to the wall, feel the space out, then just choose which color spray paint would go good for the sketch. Once I figure the color scheme, I’ll just go in on the piece on the wall… from the pencil sketch on paper to the actual piece on the wall in full color, which becomes a wild style burner, a tradition most old school and new shool graffiti artist do. Thanks to MITCH77 and KING CASE2 for the inspiration.
