“Deathly warning, violent deaths, gentle death,” vintage autopsies, necro-romance, skulls skulls skulls, Goya, Dix, Dürer, more skulls… Ohh. The recently-opened exhibition “Death: A Self-portrait” is a inquiry/somber celebration of the cross-cultural obsession with death and its artistic presentations, from Adriaen van Utrecht’s 17th-century Vanitas: Still life with a bouquet and skull to contemporaries. Memento mori.
