“Do not enter.”
“No trespassing.”
Whatever.
Urban explorer extraordinaire Moses Gates is releasing his memoir “Hidden Cities” with Tarcher/Penguin (March 21, 2013). It’s all about “what else is out there,” what happens when you ignore the signs, hop the fence, climb the bridge, go deep down into the tunnels, go to places you’re not supposed to go and what you find there. From Paris Catacombs to abandoned Moscow subways, from getting arrested on top of Notre Dame Cathedral to attending really, really underground art galleries.
So here’s a little tease: artist Logan Hicks, a fellow urban explorer, standing on the edge of the Chrysler Building atop the metallic gargoyles in a strapping red tie, perched all casual like, like he’s not 1000 feet above the sidewalk.
Moses Gates is an urban planner, licensed New York City tour guide, and visiting assistant professor of demography at the Pratt Institute. His explorations of New York have been featured on the History Channel, the Travel Channel, WNYC, and in the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Guardian. He has given talks and consulted for books and television on hidden New York City, the Paris Catacombs, and urban exploration around the world. He lives in New York City.
