At 5:41 this evening, Reuters published an obituary for financier and philanthropist George Soros. “George Soros, enigmatic financier, liberal philanthropist dies at XX,” reads the headline, followed by an even more bizarre lede: “George Soros, who died XXX at age XXX, was a predatory and hugely successful financier and investor, who argued paradoxically for years against the same sort of free-wheeling capitalism that made him billions.”
It’s unclear what’s going on here. Did Soros actually die, and the news agency forgot to remove placeholders from its artice? Or is this a pre-written obit that Reuters accidentally released? No other media outlet has reported the famed investor’s death.
