In protest of the Obama Administration’s stubborn refusal to grant over-the-counter emergency contraceptive access to people of all ages, a group of reproductive justice advocates will form a flashmob tonight in NYC.
Despite a federal court ruling that women under age 17 should have access to morning-after pills, the Administration and the co-opted FDA are going to insane legal lengths to maintain these restrictions. Nondiscriminatory access to the pill has long been supported by the scientific community, as there’s virtually no research proving levongesterol-based pills unsafe for adolescents. This has led many people to suspect that the Administration’s stance on the issue is strictly political, scientifically unfounded, and, to be frank, absurdly sexist.
Tonight’s flashmob, organized by the National Women’s Liberation and partners, is one in a series of protests happening around the country this week aiming to bring an end to this reproductive discrimination. The details, via Feministing:
