Richard Phillips Erected a Giant Playboy Logo in Marfa Desert, Texas

June 20, 2013 | Kyle Chayka

After much speculation earlier this month, it has been confirmed that the nearly 40-foot tall Playboy bunny logo spotted mysteriously in the desert of Marfa, Texas is in fact the work of Richard Phillips.

While it is quite obvious that Playboy’s new creative team of Neville Wakefield and Landis Smithers commissioned the project in hopes to reinvigorate their brand…

I loved his idea of this glowing symbol in the middle of nowhere as we — Playboy — are emerging from this period of darkness.

…it looks pretty impressive. As if a huge bunny logo in the middle of nowhere wasn’t enough, it’s accompanied by an all-black 1972 Dodge Charger balanced precariously atop a small cement structure. Check out this video of Playboy’s own Playmate of the Year, Raquel Pomplun with Richard Phillip’s work above.
