Things are looking quite promising for Arca, local Brooklyn beat producer and prominent collaborator on Kanye West’s latest effort, Yeezus. The producer released his latest mixtape this morning on his website after nearly a year of silence. The new twenty-five minute mix, simply titled &&&&&, features a collection of strong, perpetually jittery beats that, to my ears, hit harder than some of the Yeezus beats we’ve heard so much of lately.
Yeezus is easily Kanye's darkest record, and with that comes an almost total abandonment of the warm, sample-based sound upon which he built his name.
