The MTA took out a full page ad in Sunday’s New York Daily News, touting its Metro-North line. “Wonderful getaways just outside the City,” reads the travel promo. “Experience Metro-North’s discount one-day getaways and overnights to the Hudson Valley, Connecticut and beyond.”
As lovely as it sounds to go on “vineyard tours and wine tastings,” this is hardly the time to be promoting the commuter rail. It’s currently undergoing all sorts of emergency repair work due to a power outage on its New Haven branch, which is currently operating at only 50 percent capacity and isn’t expected to return to normal service for at least another week if all goes well. The problems on this line are also straining others, so yeah, perhaps it’s not a good time to “pick your own apple.”
