Miley Cyrus vs. Sinead O’Connor, 2013’s Most Inevitable Mashup, Isn’t So Bad

As you may recall, the epic battle between Miley Cyrus and Sinead O’Connor, which spawned heartfelt letters of concern from one side and, uh, subtweets from the other, began when Miley referenced Sinead’s “Nothing Compares 2U” video as an inspiration for her “Wrecking Ball” clip. And amid all the hubbub that followed, it was easy to miss that there was a clear reference–at least in the shots that featured Cyrus staring into the camera against a plain backdrop.
It turns out the songs themselves aren’t all that different either, a fact Robin Skouteris exploited with this surprisingly good mashup. Of course, given “Nothing Compares 2U”‘s status as one of the all-time greatest pop singles and “Wrecking Ball”‘s as something I finally caved and listened to for the first time this morning, it mostly makes me want to listen to Sinead. Still, not bad.
