Most New Yorkers Want Legal Weed

February 17, 2014 | Andy Cush

A new Quinnipiac poll confirms we’re slowly catching up to our friends in Washington and Colorado, as 57 percent of New Yorkers now support legalizing weed for recreational use. The numbers for medical cannabis are even stronger, with 88 percent of state residents in support. Take heed, Andrew Cuomo.

From the AP:

Maurice Carroll, director of the poll, says a narrow majority doubt that legalizing marijuana will lead to harder drug use, and about half say marijuana is no worse than alcohol.

The poll surveyed 1,488 New York voters by phone on Feb. 6-10 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.

The plant has support from local politicians as well, including from State Senator Liz Krueger, who introduced a bill in December that would fully legalize weed, taxing and regulating it like alcohol. Watch ANIMAL’s interview with Krueger here.
