Earlier today, Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova tweeted:
When I hear Lana Del Rey, I feel as if I’m back in the prison camp in the middle of clean up. #associations.
Когда я слышу Лану дель рей, я чувствую себя в разгаре генеральной уборки в исправительном лагере. #ассоциации

Nadya Tolokonnikova and Masha Alyokhina spent two years in Russia’s harshest correctional facilities for dancing to a protest song inside a church for 40 seconds, performing an anti-Putin art action as the feminist punk art-band Pussy Riot. The conditions were so inhumane and sadistic, that Nadya and Masha are now are devoting themselves to prisoner rights activism. While in jail, Nadya has gone on hunger strikes to protest the treatment of her fellow prisoners.
Why does Lana make Nadya think of prison-time? Maybe it’s the pop singer’s general aura of submissive domesticity.
Heaven is a place on Earth where you tell me all the things you want to do.
Open up a beer/And you say get over here…It’s you, it’s you, it’s all for you/Everything I do.
…and layers and layers of grown ass Lolita Syndrome.
You can be the boss, daddy…
Since their release, the group members were allegedly disowned by other members for not being feminist enough and appearing at an Amnesty International concert, arrested for no reason, brutally beaten and horsewhipped by Cossacks in Sochi and assaulted with paint and garbage inside a McDonald’s in Nizhny Novgorod.
