Smart: Phil Prendergast, a member of the European Parliament from Ireland, is doing campaign advertisements on Grindr. Prendergast is angling to become president of the Parliament’s LGBT Intergroup, so advertising on gay dating app makes good sense. Here’s what she has to say about her candidacy:
I have been one of the loudest voices in the European Parliament on LGBT issues such as homophobic and transphobic bullying, and marriage equality.
I think the importance of having an Irish voice lead the Intergroup is underscored by the fact that in 2015 we will hold the first positively-worded referendum in the world- giving people the option of legalising as opposed to banning- gay marriage.
The ad touts a quote from the intergroup’s current president, Michael Cashman: “Literally and figuratively, Phil and I walk hand-in-hand in the fight for human rights in Europe.”
