Coming Soon: Another Port Authority Bus Terminal?

April 1, 2014 | Andy Cush

Manhattan’s grimiest public transportation hub has its eye on expansion. According to DNAinfo, the Port Authority is angling to build another bus terminal in Midtown, setting up shop on the block between 39th and 40th Streets and 10th and 11th Avenues. By the looks of it, the new station would serve mostly commuters from Jersey, not the huddled Greyhound-riding masses.

The terminal would have direct, underground access to the Lincoln Tunnel, meaning the influx of buses wouldn’t muck up traffic in an area that’s already congested with cars around rush hour. The local Community Board 4 has given its approval for the new construction; now, the Port Authority is waiting on a Federal Transit Administration grant. The station could be finished as early as 2020.
