A Dead Whale Was Vandalized in Atlantic City , But It Wasn’t With Graffiti

May 2, 2014 | Bucky Turco

No Time magazine, a beached whale that was found dead in Atlantic City with “Tau Epsilon Phi” spray painted on it doesn’t constitute a “mural” and most likely wasn’t the work of “graffiti artists” as reported. While I understand that “graffiti” has historically been used as a catch-all phrase to mean everything from names carved on a tree to tags, elaborate pieces, and gang markings, now that is has become a recognizable art form, perhaps the media could refrain from being so loose with the term. I was expecting a cool throw up or an outline at least, not this barely legible scribble. (Photo: Vernon Ogrodnek/AP)
