New York State Senator Liz Krueger will be proposing a bill to legalize weed, again. The ardent Democratic attempted to introduce legislation earlier this year, but apparently it was dead in the water due to the political climate at the time (an untoppable Republican-controlled senate and a hesitant governor). Then something miraculous happened and New York adopted a medical pot law, a move the public overwhelmingly supports.
Now Krueger is hoping that victory can lead to an even more progressive drug policy. According to the Wall Street Journal, Krueger’s bill would be similar to the measures that were adopted in Washington and Colorado, where high caliber strains of cannabis are taxed and regulated like alcohol.
