After completing the largest 360 degree mural ever earlier this month, Sao Paulo-born duo Os Gêmeos will see their legendary 2009 piece at Houston and Bowery unveiled to the public one last time. The owners of the property say construction of a new wall, which is part of a larger development plan at the site, will begin after a limited display of the kaleidoscopic work.
In July 2009, the twin brothers were commissioned by Goldman Properties to paint the spot. It stayed up until March of 2010 and then was encased by a stud wall due to “degrading concrete,” preserving it. A month later, Shepard Fairey became the first of many artists to create short term murals on the refurbished wall. It has also hosted from the likes of HOW and NOSM, Swoon, CRASH, REVOK and POSE, COPE2, and more.
Goldman will reveal the hidden mural to the public at 5pm on Tuesday, September 30th, but the company has not specified when it will be demolished. ANIMAL has reached out to their spokesman for further details.
