Arrested Russian Tourist’s Brooklyn Bridge Selfie Was Totally Worth It

October 16, 2014 | Marina Galperina

The Russian tourist who climbed the Brooklyn Bridge in August got off pretty easy, considering that this sort of stunt could soon be a federal crime. While on vacation in New York, Yaroslav Kolchin, a 24-year-old ad agency manager from Moscow, scaled the historic span’s 276-foot tower and took #selfies and #shoeselfies, as well as #videos of his #spectacular #view.

He spent a few days in jail and made bail, pleading guilty to a misdemeanor of reckless endangerment and criminal trespass. The judge wanted to give him 90 days, but he was released early on October 6th, prohibited from climbing structures and ordered to do 92 hours of community service.

Kolchin told the Daily News:

I was a little bit scared, but it was my last day in New York. I want to save memories of my trip and take beautiful pictures… In Russia, this is normal thing to do.

Seems like it, yeah:
