A spokesperson for former Mayor Mike Bloomberg announced yesterday that the wholesale buy up of more than 400 .nyc URLs that might relate to the billionaire mogul was probably excessive and they will be returning most of them shortly.
Bloomberg found himself in an embarrassing situation when the list of domain names that his lawyers purchased for him was released. In an effort to prevent sites that are critical or humorous, he bought sites like MikeIsTooShort.nyc and BloombergIsaWiener.nyc.
The law firm, Wilkie Farr & Gallagher, paid nearly $12,000 to squash your dreams of a website featuring Bloomberg’s face photoshop-ed on wieners. It seems unlikely that Bloomberg will receive a refund but this is a man who paid $62,400 a week just to clean his aquarium while he was mayor. Get ready to buy up those domains in case he changes his mind down the road.
