The finalists to host the Democratic National Convention were announced on Monday and Brooklyn is in the running. Rounding out the shortlist is Columbus, Ohio and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
According to the Wall Street Journal, it’s all about Brooklyn:
New York’s bid for the Democratic convention would use Barclays Center in Downtown Brooklyn as the main venue. While New York has hosted six national political conventions, its selection for the 2016 convention would mark the first time the borough of Brooklyn would be the host.
The DNC is tentatively planning to hold the convention earlier than normal, aiming for late summer in 2016. The 2012 convention was held at the beginning of September.
Mayor Bill de Blasio, a man who has worked on Democratic campaigns for years, was enthusiastic about the possibility of hosting the DNC, saying:
Brooklyn is an example to us all, an example to America, Brooklyn’s success will also be Queens’ success, the Bronx’s success, Staten Island’s success making us a more perfect union.
