The image you are looking at right now is the most expensive photograph in the world. Before I tell you how much someone paid for it, I want you to take it all in, noting that it is devoid of any color and is set in an Arizona canyon. Okay, you ready? Someone paid $6.5 million for that.
Phantom, by photographer Peter Lik, has usurped the record-holding position from Andreas Gursky’s Rhein II, which netted around $4 million.
According to Lik, the private buyer also purchased two other photos for $2.4 million and $1.1 million. Currently, four of the world’s top 20 most expensive photos belong to him.
