Watch Fans Give The Final “Word” On The Colbert Report

December 19, 2014 | ANIMAL

Last night was the final episode of The Colbert Report, so ANIMAL went down to the Report’s studio to ask fans waiting outside how they felt about it. How did they feel in general? Sad, duh. But there were some surprising answers in there. You can see them answers in the video above, in which ANIMAL asked fans for the final “Word” on the greatest show ever made.

After nine years, the real Stephen Colbert said that the character Stephen Colbert is officially retired, but in last night’s finale the character became IMMORTAL. Let’s just hope that he leaves the door open for us to see him again one day. Colbert and some of his favorite guests sand a star-studded blow-out rendition of “We’ll Meet Again,” which adds an extra ray of hope. Colbert genuinely seemed a little misty-eyed, and it ended with a bittersweet old clip of Colbert and Jon Stewart doing their between show hand off and cracking each other up.

But before any of that, Colbert gave his final “Word.” It had everything the show does best. He ran down the list of horrible things that have stayed exactly the same since the Report began in a scathing indictment of the world and his own failure to change it. Colbert was never meant to change the world but at his finest he spoke truth to power. It was a poignant reminder of what we’ll be missing.
