Tear Gas Is New Addition To Brooklyn-Based Obstacle Course Designer’s Torture Scheme

January 7, 2015 | Rhett Jones

If getting electrocuted, jumping into freezing water, and falling through a ring of fire doesn’t seem extreme enough for your fun times, how about throwing in a little tear gas? That’s what Brooklyn-based obstacle course designer Tough Mudder is doing with its latest grueling endurance test.

Tough Mudder organizes more than 50 events around the world each year, so there is definitely some demand for voluntary torture. The tear gas is just one of several new course additions to be announced this month, which lead designer Nolan Kombol characterizes as, “challenges that focus on inducing adrenaline while also being safe for the participant.”

The specific leg of the course is called “Cry Baby.” One tester told Sports Illustrated that making your way through the gas filled tent is like the “feeling of having Sriracha poured into every one of our tiny cuts and abrasions.” Whatever gets you off, man.

If you just have to be the first to know what Tough Mudder has cooked up this year, then you can attend the announcements at 15 MetroTech Center in Downtown Brooklyn on January 13th. Those who want to join in the festivities can sign up for the New York competition that will take place in the Poconos right here. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
