The tempest that was to unleash its fury upon New York ended up leaving only 9.8 inches of snow in Central Park, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The New York Daily News ranked all of the city’s winter storms since 1890 and found that the first storm of 2015 ranked at 36th in a comparison of biggest annual snowfalls.
In anticipation of the “potentially historic” storm, the mayor imposed a travel ban effective Monday at 11 PM. The city’s subway system closed to passengers for the first time ever due to a winter storm. The record for snowfall in the city remains 24.1 inches, however, during a storm in 2006.
But if New Yorkers think they’re out of the woods, they’re wrong. More snow is likely on its way, so EVERYBODY KEEP PANICKING.
