Boy Oh Boy, Donald Trump’s Golf Course In the Bronx Sure Is Dumb

April 2, 2015 | Liam Mathews

Trump Ferry Point, the public golf course owned by the Parks Department and operated by the real estate buffoon’s organization, opened on Wednesday after years of delays and hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars spent. Estimates in the press of what the park cost to build range from $127 million to $269 million.

A round of golf costs between $141 and $215, depending on the day of the week, and if the player is a resident of New York City (an average round at one of the city’s other public courses costs approximately $40). It is located in the Throgs Neck neighborhood of the Bronx, where the median household income was $65,731 in 2011. The Bronx as a whole, however, has a median household income of just $34,388, and contains the poorest Congressional district in the country. The construction of the course has been plagued by cost overruns and mismanagement from the start. The New York Times reported in 2007 that the city basically lit $6 million on fire in overpaying the previous developers, who left the project that year.

Trump Ferry Point is built on top of a former dump, and it looks like it. A slideshow at Business Insider shows that the course is unmistakably a landfill. Underneath all the green is a big pile of trash, which is a pretty apt metaphor for Donald Trump and anyone who would fork over the cash to play there.
