A Manhattan-bound 7 train in Queens was suspended for nearly two hours on Monday morning after a conductor noticed smoke rising along the track’s third rail. The train was traveling underground at the time, carrying 542 passengers.

By 10:00 AM, the passengers were rescued and taken to Grand Central Station. By 10:30 AM, service resumed, but continued delays were expected on the 7, N, R and Q lines. No one was injured, but one woman sought medical help after reportedly feeling faint.
DNAinfo reports that “The contact shoe of a Queensbound train touched the third rail protection board and created a smoke condition that stalled the train mid-tunnel about 8:41 a.m., the MTA said.”
