Here’s a Video of a Tense Face-Off Between Baltimore Police and Protesters

Photographer Al Marcus, who has been documenting the protests in Baltimore, sent ANIMAL this video of the stand-off between Baltimore cops and protesters from late Monday afternoon. The footage shows rioters throwing bricks at cops, and cops striking back with rocks as the cops pushed rioters into a neighborhood next to the Mondawmin Mall. “One officer had to be carried out with a bloody face. I believe he was hit with a brick,” Marcus told ANIMAL via email.

The New York Times reports on final tally of those injured during the unrest:

In all, the mayor office said, 15 buildings and 144 cars were set on fire overnight, and more than 200 arrests were made. The police said two people were shot, each in the leg, in separate episodes. One victim, a woman, was shot on Fulton Avenue near where some of the worst rioting and looting had occurred hours earlier. The other victim, a man, was shot about two miles west of the Mondawmin Mall, where the rioting began.

The protests started after the funeral of Freddie Gray, an unarmed black man who sustained a fatal spinal injury while in police custody.

The city will be under a curfew that starts at 10 PM Tuesday night that extends until 5 AM Wednesday morning.
