NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton, who wants to hire more officers but hasn’t been able to do so, finally threw up his hands and more or less said, “You know ISIS, right? They’re scary, right? Well, they’re trying to kill us. Right now. They’re on their way here. So we need 450 new cops so we can fight ISIS.”
“I’m going to put another 450 police officers – if we get the approval…into our counterterrorism operations to increase the ability of our officers to protect critical sites around the city,” is what Bratton actually said during an interview Sunday on AM 970, according to the Daily News.
Bratton wants to hire more than 1,000 new cops, but Mayor de Blasio has repeatedly said, essentially, “Nah, we have plenty of cops, thank you.” So now Bratton has pulled the counterterrorism card. Leading ISIS observers do not believe the group to be an imminent threat to America.
Maybe they could invade ISIS Nails in Queens. Although that’s probably more of a job for the Department of Consumer Affairs.
