Prospect Heights Bar Charges Women 77% of Their Bar Tabs to Highlight Gender Wage Gap

The Way Station, a bar in Prospect Heights previously best known for its Doctor Who-themed bathroom, had a very special promotion last night, 7/7: the bar only charged women 77% of their tab, to draw attention to the fact that women earn 77 cents for every dollar earned by men.

“I have three sisters. The majority of my staff and friends are women,” owner Andy Heidel told The Guardian. “I thought this would be a great way to even the playing field even if it was for one night only.”

The bar was reportedly packed all night with a crowd that Heidel estimated was 85% women. Heidel also said that guys on the Men’s Rights subreddit were complaining about his discriminatory pricing, which is pretty funny.

Unfortunately, Heidel may make this an annual event, because the pay gap will likely still exist next year.
