A tipster sent in an image on of what appeared to be a piece of Kaws art hanging on his wall, but it was actually a counterfeit he made. So, we asked him if he would share his process. He agreed. Making your own bootleg Kaws is as as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
Step 1. Find a picture of a Kaws piece you like.
Step 2. Trace it in Illustrator.
Step 3. Color in details and shadows. Save as a PDF.
Step 4. Contact a company like Carvart CNC to print it on this type of foam core board.
Step 5. Have them cut it out.
Step 6. Hang it up
That was easy! If you can’t find a Kaws you like or don’t want that hanging in your home, we imagine this technique could work for all kinds of contour and filler-based art, from Mondrian to Malevich. (Images: Fan)
