Several Injured in F Train Derailment

May 2, 2014 | Andy Cush

An F Train derailed in Woodside, Queens, this morning, causing delays and forcing an evacuation through the subway car roof. The train went off the rails at about 10:30AM, just south of the Queens 65th street station, causing thick clouds of smoke.

UPDATE: Officials are reporting 19 injuries, four of them serious.

DNAinfo has details about service interruptions:

Three trains were affected in the aftermath as crews cut power to the tunnel, the MTA said. Two trains were reveresed to another station, but a Manhattan-bound E train was stuck behind the derailed F and the responders planned to evacuate those riders after the F train was emptied, an MTA spokeswoman said.

E trains were suspended in both directions between Queens Plaza and Jamaica Center, the MTA said. F trains were suspended between 179th Street and 21st Street. M trains terminated at Essex Street. R trains were suspended between 71st Ave and Queens Plaza.

“I woke up literally right before it started shaking violently. Suddenly it just braked really hard. A lot of people were crying,” one witness said. We’ll update here if anything changes.
