Ari Teman, the man who unwittingly rented his luxury apartment in Chelsea to the XXX Freak Fest orgy on Airbnb, has had a rough year. He was evicted from his apartment, and says that the fall-out put him on a city-wide tenant blacklist. Now he’s unable to find a new place in the city, and he’s been couch surfing, staying in hotels and even posting up in his office.
He’s taken up the issue with Airbnb. According to previous reports, the rental site was pretty responsive, sending in a locksmith to change the locks, wiring him more than $20,000, and putting him up in a hotel for a week after the incident happened last March. However, it seems that the goodwill has ended because, according to Teman, Airbnb has’t followed through with helping him find a way to rent again.
He took his grievances to a blog:
I am homeless because you stuck a “XXX Freak Fest” orgy in my apartment and abandoned me to deal with the fall out.
I’m not homeless because of finances – though the unimagined debt and massive amount of lost work caused by your orgy hasn’t helped – but because thanks to Airbnb I’m on a blacklist and cannot get a legitimate lease in all of New York City.
Brokers refuse to help me after looking me up and finding I’m on the blacklist. One building management refused to even accept a full year’s up-front payment because I was on the blacklist.
I’ve had to sleep in over 20 places since you put an orgy in my apartment, because I cannot get a lease. I’m exhausted and want a home.
You need to fix this.I was born in NYC, I’ve lived in NYC and built volunteer organizations and companies in NYC, I’ve done comedy for years in NYC, and thanks to Airbnb I can no longer get a lease to live in NYC.
Damn, that sucks.
