Photographer Maurice Van Es recently put together this collection of photos he found in Sandy’s aftermath. He posted them online in hopes of tracing them back to their original owners. What a guy.
Notice how the storm-inflicted damage almost superimposes an out-of-place hurricane aesthetic into the photographed scenes themselves — the warped film seems to manifest itself as flying rubble and rain. It’s pretty uncanny. Check out the rest of Van Es’ photography here.
[Ed. note]: Photos removed at the request of a one Jeannette Van Houten, take it up with her.

He, Maurice Van Es DID NOT find these photos! He IS NOT trying to find their rightful owners. He took these photos from a website where the person IS trying to find the rightful owners! He IS NOT a good guy! The owners and residents who WERE affected by Sandy live in Union Beach, New Jersey! HE IS A DISGUSTING PERSON to try and make it like HE is the one doing all of the work behind finding/scanning/and getting them back to their owners!!!!
I am the physical owner of the photos until they find their owners. Unless Maurice van Es came into the United States, visited Union Beach NJ and removed the photos prior to me starting the project on Oct 30, he found the photos on 1 of 2 websites. And I would opt that he found them on the facebook page not the wix page because of the clarity of the photos – I either photographed the photos which gives me creative copy or I scanned the photos and uploaded them to the facebook group. The families own the COPYRIGHT to these photos and DID NOT give permission to Maurice to use these photos. He never even talked to the owners or me about what he was doing.
